No surprise here, but the Netherlands swept the women’s 1500km long track event on day 2 of the Winter Olympics. Netherlands have been a powerhouse in speed skating for a long time. As a country they took home 22 medals at the Sochi winter games in 2014.

Carlyjn Aactereekte finished in first place with a time of 3:59.21. She beat out fellow country superstar Ireen Wust by just .08 of a second. Third place went to Antoinette de Jong.

Wust took home her ninth career Olympic gold medal. This ties her with Germany’s Claudia Pechstein for the most all time by a speed skater. Claudia finished 4th in this event. Wust has already announced her retirement from the sport after this Olympic games.
