These two stories are quite similar. Both teams start the season strong. They both go on to look like the have a chance to win the super bowl. Then their young emerging star Quarterback get injured late in the season.
Last season Derek Carr broke his fibula in week 15 against the Colts. He had led them to a 13-3 record and at least a first round bye in the playoffs. Leading the AFC West. Now Carr goes down and they went 1-1 and fell to a wild card.
They would go on to lose he wild card weekend game to the Houston Texans who were also on a backup QB. Carr came back this season and hasn’t quite returned to the level of play he was at last season.
Carson Wentz went down with what is reportedly a torn ACL that will sideline him for the rest of the 2017 season. Wentz led the team to a current record of 11-2. Much like Carr, Wentz has had a banner MVP breakout year.
The Eagles quickly went from super bowl favorite to non contender. That is the reality of how important your QB is when the playoffs come around. The Eagles fans will have to start looking into next year for any hope. Minnesota is on its way to the super Bowl.
