With Captain Patrice Bergeron and David Backes out in the opener, who will step up?

The Boston Bruins will be down two top players in their season opener against the Nashville Predators. Patrice Bergeron and David Backes will both be off the ice. Coach Cassidy said each player is day to day and that Backes will be evaluated later today.

“Obviously we’d love to dress the strongest lineup we can, especially veteran guys … but one door closes, another one opens,” Cassidy stated. “There’s opportunity for other guys.”

Center Ryan Spooner is the player expected to step in for Bergeron lined up with Marchand and Bjork. Spooner is read to have fun and play as he said earlier. The line will definitely be different without the captain leading it.

The Bruins are also out defenseman Torey Krug who’s recovering from a fractured jaw he sustained in a preseason game. The Bruins will have some holes in their lines, so other players will need to step up as coach Cassidy said. We will see the Bruins play tonight in the Garden at 7:00pm EST.
