With nominations like Randy Moss, Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher making their first appearance, who do they get the vote over?
It’s no secret that there are some unique and truly talented players that come around. Some years there are more than previous. The 2018 Hall of Fame announced their 2018 class nominees. There are 108 total candidates. That is a large list to choose from. From the 108, 25 will be chosen as semifinalists, then that will be cut down to 15.
In order to be elected, a finalist has to get 80% of the vote. Fans can vote online by going to http://www.nfl.com/labs/rr/halloffame/2018. There are some repeat names that some people debate every year if they should be inducted or not. Some of those names include Steve McNair, Tiki Barber, Issac Bruce and Brian Dawkins. Out of those names, there is one that is in the center of that debate more than others. That man would be Terrell Owens.
Owens was such a fanatic as a wide receiver. He was talented, fast, strong and showy. Some people were turned off by his antics with celebrations or interviews. Many people ride on the argument that his attitude should keep him from the Hall of Fame, but it’s called the Hall of FAME. So wouldn’t T.O’s antics and celebrations make him famous? T.O is definitely a household name for any family that watches football.
For the first time, some phenomenal players are appearing on the list of nominees. These names include, Brian Urlacher, Ray Lewis and Randy Moss. Each of those three players I believe have more than earned a spot in the NFL’s Hall of Fame. The question is, will they get in their first year.
The final voting will be on the Saturday before the Super Bowl next year, which is February 3rd in Minneapolis.
This year’s nominations seem to be tough competition to each other. Within the WRs, you have guys like Randy Moss, Hines Ward, Terrell Owens, Donald Driver and Torry Holt. The running backs include; Tiki Barber, Fred Taylor, Eddie George and Edgerrin James.
Switching to defense, linebacker candidates include; Tedy Bruschi, Ray Lewis, Clay Matthews, Willie McGinest, Zach Thomas, Brian Urlacher and Joey Porter. Ronde Barber, Brian Dawkins, Rodney Harrison, Ty Law and John Lynch are included in the defensive back nominations.
Coach nominations have some stellar candidates. Bill Cowher, Dick Vermeil, Mike Holmgren and Marty Schottenheimer are included in the nominated coaches.
It will be another exciting year to see who makes the cuts, and who gets voted in. Personally, I think Ray Lewis, Tedy Bruschi and Hines Ward all belong in the HoF, and that’s just for starters. Who do you think will be voted in? Who do you hope gets voted in?
