Saturday afternoon The University of South Carolina Gamecocks and NC State Wolfpack met on a neutral site in Charlotte, NC to begin their 2017 seasons.

The gamecocks had a revival of a season where they went 6-7 which netted them a bowl game, surprising everyone even #1 fan and proud alum Darrius Rucker who made a bet with a current student on social media, that if the Gamecocks went to a bowl game he would do a free concert for students.

Saturday afternoon the Gamecocks were underdogs with a 34% chance of winning the game. The game began with NC state winning the toss and electing to defer to the second half, giving SC the ball to begin. NC state kicked off and WR Deebo Samuel took it to the house for a 94-yard TD. The crowd went wild, leaving NC state in disbelief.

NC state having one of the better Defensive units in the country being headlined by seniors DE Bradley Chubb and LB Shawn Boone and flurry of returning juniors had a real tough time stopping the young and promising USC offense led by their true sophomore trio of QB Jake Bentley, RB Rico Dowdle and WR Bryan Edwards along with star juniors Deebo Samuel and one of the best TE’s in the country in 24-year old Hayden Hurst.

At the end of the 4th Quarter NC State had a chance to tie the game down 35-28 and the ball in the red zone. Star receiver for the Wolfpack Senior Jaylen Samuels had one heck of a game catching an eye popping 15 passes for 85 yards a TD from Boise State transfer Ryan Finley who threw for over 400 yards passing. But the Carolina defense prevailed and forced a turnover on downs in the end zone with star LB Skai Moore saving the day tipping the pass on 4th down to effectively end the game and give his team the victory.

After the game reporters caught up with QB Jake Bentley and coach will Muschamp and this is what they had to say.  “It sets the tone for our season” said Jake Bentley. “We competed out there and Deebo really saved me with that throw to the back of the endzone, nobody in the country can guard him”. Will Muschamp enjoyed watching his team celebrate in the locker room and this is what he had to say ‘At the end of the day, it only counts as one” “We’ll enjoy it tonight and get back to work in the morning, we have a lot of corrections to make”.

Many people around the country took notice of this victory and if SC can win next weekend in Missouri, more people will begin to believe in this young, yet talented squad.

SC will go to Columbia, Missouri to face the Mizzou Tigers on Saturday where they are 4.5 point underdogs to the Tigers. Game will be played at 7PM EST and can be seen on ESPN2.
